Where to begin…. I guess I’ll start at the beginning for this amazing woman. When Lyann came to Freakin years ago, she started at ground level. A true beginner to fitness. Her flexibility, strength, and coordination was one of the worst starting points we’ve seen over the years. However, her amazing attitude, determination to learn, and consistency were one of the things her coaches noticed in just the first couple days. Since then, Lyann has become one of the OG’s (Original Gangsters) of Freakin CrossFit… You will see her almost every day, always smiling, pushing others, and is a role model for new members walking in the door. She probably doesn’t know this, but her strength, coordination and flexibility is what her head coaches show beginners to strive for. She is a shining example of what our community is about. If you don’t know her yet, feel free to walk up to her and introduce yourself. You’ll probably find another BEST FRIEND at the box. Tell us about yourself.
I was born in El Salvador. I moved to Florida 12 years ago. I’m a business owner. I have been married for 12 years to an extraordinary person, Estuardo. We have two kids, Christian 9 and Catherine 7.
What made you start CrossFit?
My daughter had a severe skin condition that even doctors didn’t know what to do, but after following a holistic approach for 2 years, she finally healed. So, after going through tough times as a full time caregiver, I decided to take care of myself, I asked my friend Marina for a good gym and she recommended me to Freakin CrossFit. Maryln was at the front desk and she was very nice and welcoming and since I was committed to start a healthy lifestyle, I didn’t ask much about the CrossFit training methodology. I just signed up without doing the trial class.
What have you learned since joining Freakin CrossFit?
First, no matter the fitness level you are, the body adapts quickly. When I started CrossFit in September 2016 I wasn’t in shape. I hadn’t exercise for almost 10 years. Doing the trial class felt like a near-death experience for me. I was so weak, that the coach gave me the Minnie Mouse Kettlebell and the PVC pipe in place of the barbell for the first sessions. However, everyday I could see little improvements. Now, I’m able to do movements that I would have never thought I could do.
When I was able to squat clean my body weight.

What does your nutrition look like? Has it changed since starting CrossFit?
So far, I don’t follow any specific diet or nutrition program I just try to avoid processed foods and follow basic nutrition guidelines.
What is one tip you would give someone who is thinking about starting CrossFit or just started?
Don’t be intimidated. I wasn’t athletic in any sense of the word and I loved Crossfit from day one. The coaches won’t allow you to do more than you are capable of doing. Log your score daily and you will see your progress. It is simply matter of time.
When you’re not Crossfitting, what is your favorite thing to do?
I love to spend time with my family and friends. I love being an entrepreneur and empower other women to do the same.
